Blacklion 1958 - 59:
Michael Kelly in the middle with pipe, and two others who cannot be
named.
(Michael Kelly eventually became a diocesan priest, I
think, after many years of sterling work with the WFs.
Has anyone been in touch with him lately ?)

St Columba's, 1951 - 52: The blessing of the foundation stone for
the new chapel.
Michael thinks that Fr Howell, the WF provincial, is officiating
(centre-right, with beard)
but it looks like Fr Drost to me. What do you think ?
Brother David is at the left, in the front, and Fr Ryan (?)
is to the right at the back (or is that Fr Ryce or Fr Riddle
?)
Mrs Hughes is to the right, at the front. (Is she Mrs Christine Hughes,
the wife of Mr Hughes the builder ?)
(Photo probably taken by Fr Boyd)

Robbie Dempsey writes :
"It's almost an aerial photograph ! Was the photographer UP ON THE
ROOF ? I don't recall being
able to see down to the river like that ! Maybe, the trees grew and obscured
it by 1960."

(Trainspotters please note: Hymn 112 was "O Mother blest,
whom God bestows" - Sei pura, sei pia)
Robbie Dempsey writes :
Question: Why was the photo taken ? Just a boy with a camera
? No, it says probably Fr. Boyd. So, it is a special occasion ?
It is a dark evening and not summertime. All the candles are lit. Not for
night prayers then. The boys are probably awaiting Benediction
is it Sunday ? Page 1866 of the LIBER has a hymn "For the Pope"
. .. Oremus pro Pontifice nostro Pio . .. Dominus conservet eum,
et vivificet eum, ... et beatum faciat eum in terra, et non tradat eum ...
in animam inimicorum ejus. Then on page 1867 it's "For A Bishop"
. . . Oremus pro Antistite nostro ????? Well, whoever ? Was this for a visit
by Bishop Walsh, Bishop of Aberdeen and founder of St Columba's
(back in 1936) ?? ref: The Columban mentions December 1952 (was the Chapel
built by then ?) Or, was it March 16th, 1953 - a visit
from the Archbishop of Tabora ? Was March 16th, 1953 a Sunday ?
Heck ,it's One O'clock in the morning. I remember the train
(Waverley Express ?) running through St. Boswell's but really, I've not
much interest in trains other than that they run !
