The Study Hall in 1961. There used to be a piano in front
of the bookcase.
Can you see it?
David Airley & Desmond Boyle practised on it continuously
during my time (1956/7).
And 'Ted' Heath held regular choir practices around that piano.
The Study Hall was central to our lives at The Priory, of course:
late-night
study, spiritual readings, exams, letter-writing on Sundays etc
As you may remember, the door that you can see led on to the corridor
by the Chapel, where we kept our cassocks and cottas
(known irreverently
as 'monkey suits' if I recall correctly.

The 'Senior
Dormitory' in 1961.
In my time, 4 years previously, there were two adjacent
dormitories;
that gap at the far end looks like the small adjoining corridor, in
fact.
Invariably, Fr Fitzgerald (then Prefect of Discipline) slept in
the partitioned area,
far left so there was absolutely no breaking
of the Grand Silence, of course!

Hugh Maguire.
Peter Vale-Humphreys writes :
". . . Yes it's Frank Smith, centre of
the front row.
My, for such a small fella he could jump up in the air and connect with
the crosses I put in.
I was sure he'd make a good footballer. Hughes and Maguire were also
talents.
Big strong tall Sean well nobody messed with him!
I
do not recognise
the front left of picture either.
It might be him that took my place!!
