The ordination of Fr Gerry Wynne
which took place in February 1961 at St Columba's.
| This is the
first of several pages devoted to Gerry's ordination. Why so many ?
On the one hand, we are lucky to have been given the complete record by
his sister, Frances. Secondly, the Wynne family have had a very close relationship
with the White Fathers over the years : Gerry's father was President of
the White Fathers' Parents' Association and Frances acted as its Secretary
for many years. Thirdly, many of our regular visitors will remember this
occasion and recognise both the clergy and the students who took part. In short, this little bundle of photos is a substantial addition to our archives for which we must thank Gerry's sister, Frances, and his friend Pat Cassells, who took it upon himself to scan the whole collection. Recently, Tony Smyth left the following on our Message Board : "It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Gerry Wynne. I, like many that I see here at The Pelicans, was part of that celebration at St.Columba's in February 1961 that featured Gerry's ordination. For me it was the first of many 'celebrations' I would enjoy while with the White Fathers and although I only met Gerry one time after that, his ordination will always hold a high place in my memories of those times. My condolences and best wishes go out to all members of Gerry's family, his confrres and friends." 1st August 2004 |
