Pat Gritton found this photo in an old copy of "Steam World" as he was browsing in a local car boot sale. The photo was taken March 7th 1959 — when many of you would have been slogging away, just up the road at The Priory.

I'm not sure that many of us would ever have used this station, however : according to an accompanying article, passenger services on this Bishop's Waltham Railway were withdrawn January 2nd 1933. What you see featured in the photo is a 'Branch Line Society' rail tour, with a former LSWR 'M7' pulling a couple of coaches.

Those trainspotters amongst you might like to note the following : M7, 0-4-4T No 30111.

Patrick Southall writes (July 2007) :
" I have attached a group photo which I recently unearthed. Taken at St.Columba's in 1955 I think. I can't work out what the group is. My best guess is that it was a class group. I have tried to remember names and used the Pelicans' website to check but my list is not complete and possibly with mistakes.

Extra help to name people given by Chris Benton. This looks like a group from 1956
—about to leave St Columba's for The Priory, but Gerry Cannon (RIP) was already there. Any ideas ?

Eugene's sister Bernie writes (July 2007) :
"I thought you might like these pictures of Eugene. They were taken at his
friend Andy Smith's house where they were celebrating his 65th birthday.
I especially like the one with the champage bottle with his name on it."

(Andy was a lifelong friend of Eugene's. They started Primary school together).
